July 3, 2013 - Virginia Beach and beyond!

Today was a crazy day.  The rain squalls came and went, the sun came and went.  And the adventure continued...

As Greg prepared to begin, I started hearing rumbling and looked up...You were right Kirk!  There were birds in the sky!

No...not those birds!

These birds!!

We had to hunt for parking and this was serious beaching territory so...
It was a misty morning.

Tradition has it that bicyclists going across America dip their rear tire in the Atlantic Ocean and when they arrive on the west coast, dip their front tire in the Pacific Ocean...

In eight days Greg will be turning 50 and I thought it was so nice of Virginia Beach to acknowledge that!   : )

  Our spot in the rain...

 Friends along the way...

Greg began his ride and I made my way back to the RV...

At this point, things are good....then Greg encounters more rainfall and dirt paths that are muddy and flooded...I'm driving out of town and notice the camera screen, which usually shows the jeep being towed, is blank!  I pull to the right, put on the emergency blinkers and get out to see if I still have a jeep back there!  I do, thank God.  Across the road is a golf club parking lot, so I pull in and call Thor (RV mfgr).  They pass the buck and say it's the radio/camera company's problem, so I call Jensen/ASA.

Next thing I know I'm taking apart the unit!  Wires are dangling, the guys's explaining circuitry to me, finally he goes, you have the pull the fuse to see if it blew.  "The blue thingy?"  "Yeah."  I've discovered that the word "thingy" is my catchall word for anything I have no clue about!!  So I find my pliers (yes MY pliers), but they're too large.  Find tweezers.  Still won't work.  So he says we can get a new fuse at an auto store, I'm confident Greg will be able to take care of it, so I decide to continue on blind...

Got stuck in rush hour traffic, but I was able to motion to a car with bikes on the back (just knew they'd be friendly) and asked them if I still had a jeep back there...they said yeah and we all laughed.  Continued on to a parking lot before the next bridge and waited for Greg.  The surprising part though, was that it was a boat ramp area, across from this...

This stuff is just so cool to me...
...I think because I grew up 2 blocks from the Grumman landing strip.  There was always something neat about the hum of the plane engines every morning revving up before their flights for the day...and the sight of them just barely passing over the trees in our back yard (loved the reaction of visitors that weren't accustomed to it!)

I thoroughly enjoyed my time watching and taking pics!
Greg arrived...

...and we proceeded over the next bridge...with more amazing views!

I remember my dad telling me about when he had been on a carrier for Grumman.  How I would've loved to tag along!!

Dropped off Greg after the bridge and continued on to the next campsite - scary place!! They put us in this remote area, LOL, the piece of road to be used for the RV fell off on either side from erosion so it was tight backing in and the angle we were at (with a lake behind us) was so sharp that we couldn't use the levelers and had to hold onto the walls to move up and down in the RV.  It was a riot.  Hey Kathy...what do you think - maybe this trip could be a sequel to "The Long, Long Trailer"??!!

I remembered I had a TGI Fridays card in my wallet (probably from my mom) and we decided to go out to eat...especially since the 30 amp service turned out to be 20 amp which meant no A/C, just a roof fan (still a princess).

The sun will come out...tomorrow!

    1. Yeah, isn't it? It will be neat to do it on the other side for sure! Have to look up where there is a bit of beach near the Golden Gate, but I guess we have some time until that day arrives!
