July 17 and 19, 2013 - Bits & Pieces of Days

On route to pick up Greg in the late afternoon...

...bizarre looking bridge, I think it may be for trains...

On these back roads, there were quite a few tunnels that only allowed one car at a time...

...and there were streams everywhere.  Imagine, having a babbling brook run through your property! How serene and peaceful...
Cows on a hill...some were grazing on such steep hills, I don't know how they do it!!

On the ride back to "camp"...
                                                                                         Wait...what??

Dropping off Greg this morning, saw these neat silhouettes on the road he was about to take...he told me they held mailboxes!

Am I tired of the mountains?  Nope!  Not yet!
We met another bicyclist - Thomas...He started in San Francisco in May and is on his way to NYC!  Another rugged soul, tenting, on his own.  He is from Germany and will be flying back home after a brief hiatus in the Big Apple (is that still what it's called??).
Only got pics of him leaving...
I like visiting local shops with character and uniqueness, but wasn't having much luck.  So I decided to google "Radford VA gift shops" and found this one site listing all the shops! After driving to our next "camp", I hopped in the jeep and headed into town!  The first one that intrigued me was The Green Heron Local Gifts and Art Center, so I decided to go there first...the other stores never had a chance!

It's owned by the nicest couple - Becky and Dave.

They have had the shop for 2 years.  It's a beautiful blend of custom framing, done by both of them, batiking by Becky, sculpturestained glass, photography, jewelry, photos, illustrated children's books, hand bags (by her mom), cards, pottery and more. They offer classes and also participate in country fairs. The other artists represented are on consignment and are all from the local area.

Long ago, I had this dream of having such a place as this...and they are living it!  We seemed to have talked for hours!  Told them about the trip Greg and I were on - they've traveled up and down the east coast, but would like to go across the country someday too!  I learned about some of the artists - in fact one is a bicyclist and currently biking to North Carolina!

They gave me great tips about having a business like this, and how it does take risks to take that step forward, but I have to tell you, their place is thriving and truly harnesses that creative spirit!  I am inspired!

Pics from Radford..

Back at "camp"...a cloud burst for a brief moment
