There was no place available to keep the RV in the Boulder area so we camped it in a park east of there...where they are planning a horse auction for the weekend!
<== Tiny horsie!
The mountains are absolutely breathtaking!
There be snow in them hills!!!
The "Flat Irons"...
My daughter is going to climb this one...
...incredible!!!
The overlook...
That's the one!!
Cool car...
Yeah, she loves it here! I can see why!
At the base of the Flat Irons...
From the flood...
The girl who took our pic is off to hike the mountains...
They had this neat restaurant tucked into the surroundings...
Found out all about "Chautauqua". The concept originated in Chautauqua Lake, NY, in 1874 as an education experiment in out-of-school vacation learning. It began as a Sunday School and broadened to include academic subjects, music, art and physical education.
Had a great spot out on the porch...beautiful views...
Delicious food...
...first they brought out homemade cornbread and apple butter for everyone...
And we were entertained by people out on the park green...
Wonderful evening...but there was more fun to be had!
Went to the historic part of town and wandered around for a while!
There was this piano, just sitting there...
(I just had to!)
A neat store that made you feel like you stepped into a villa - so cool...
Awesome kite shop!
Many years ago Greg and I went to a kite festival in Garden City and we saw Revolution stunt kites being flown in rhythm to music. We were blown away. He bought one for me for my birthday! We were able to custom designed the colors! It's 7 and 1/2 feet wide and so much fun to fly!
Puppets!
Boulder also (supposedly, lol) has elk! (can't find 'em anywhere!)
A rock playground for kids!
Last day there - guess what we got? SNOW!
Mild enough in the towns...
(cool building)
...but the mountains got covered! So where do we go???!!! To the mountains to hike!!
On route we stopped at this tiny town called Idaho Springs. Gold was first discovered in Colorado here, in 1859. (blurry pic - sorry!)
And then...we get to the entrance to ascend to St. Mary's Glacier Lake!
I'm putting most of these pics in because it was absolutely beautiful up there! Aside from passing a few other hikers and one skier, we had the place to ourselves! Surreal looking and so stunning. At times the wind and snow were whipping by us so fast we had to stand behind trees to shield ourselves from its ferocity.
And we see THESE signs afterwards!
We had fun fun fun!
We were so cold! So we went to this quaint town and had hot cocoa and soup!
They also had a neat shop at the visitor's center.
The days seemed to fly by...but it was time for us to head south...
So glad we had this time together...had so much fun...
so many beautiful pics !! how did Greg like the cold, LOL his favorite weather. Hopefully you left the puppets !! But did you get me a pony at the auction???
ReplyDeleteHe was okay! There's no humidity out here, so it's cold, but it didn't feel minus 10! Thank goodness! I was so close to getting a puppet! Could use it for Sunday School!! And no, didn't get any ponies. : (
