We've been to Morro Bay before...was really nice to return and stay here a while...
Morro Rock was an important navigational aid for mariners for over 300 years because the rock is approximately 576 feet tall.
In Spanish "Morro" means crown shaped hill. Morro Rock, sometimes called the “Gibraltar of the Pacific,” is the last peak of the Nine Sisters, a series of ancient volcanic peaks, which extend from San Luis Obispo to Morro Bay.
The Avalon (below) arrived in Morro Bay in June of 2012. It is one of only two rescue submarines built for the Navy and was designed to rescue crews of downed submarines. It was also used for research and conducting training at Naval bases around the world.
