Rob helped us navigate into a spot, very close to a truck that wasn't being used. We were grateful for that, so we didn't need to use extension hoses for the hookups!
He and his wife are from Washington, but travel all over wherever there is work - they are called "workampers". They are staying here for 6 months. He works in the office (and fixes all the problems that arise with all of the RV's that stay here).
He recommended that we get this product called Koolseal or something like that for sealing the roof - said we will never have any leaks with this stuff! Also suggested that if the tires seem like they will rise above the ground when we go to level, we should level manually to keep the tires on the ground, or else it's no good for the structure of the RV...it's all making sense now, since we hear loud clunks when we extend and retract the slides.
The owner of the RV park wants to build a putt-putt golf course - they already have a batting cage area. Inside the office is a picture of a boy being shown how to swing the bat by Jesus!
He suggested visiting this store called The Pickle Barrel - had just been there recently to get a gift for his wife, as her birthday was today.
Met another camper, Kasey. Said her name was actually Karen too, but has been called this since she was young (her initials were K.C.) She was originally from Buffalo, NY!
Went to the pickle store - no pickles but AWESOME stuff! The lady there said they used to sell pickles in jars, but they would go bad since they weren't a hot selling item!
This is the base of a lamp - it's actually the inside of one of those snoopy cacti!
Met these lil guys in the store...the black and white one was friendly...the tan and white one was a little under the weather!
They also had this huge section of antiques and thrift items...remember this guy?

My cousin had a 45 record with the Speedy Gonzales song and we'd play it all the time! (uh huh, dating myself again...)
Mmmm - for breakfast morning toast!
The people at the Pickle Barrel recommended a Mexican restaurant in town, so we checked it out - great food!
First we were given homemade chips with salsa - delicious! Greg ordered steak and chicken fajitas and I had 2 tacos - one steak and one chicken. The taco shells were home made too! So good! Our waitress loves living here with her kids (who were at another table doing their homework). She said it's very quiet here, everything shuts down after 8 at night and it's a very safe neighborhood.
The next day Greg headed west, but since they had a late check out time at the RV park, I visited Besh Ba Gowah - an archeological park...and had a great time!
These little guys were fun...prickly pear cactus.
I see one of the little purple doo-dads on the ground and think, cool, it fell from the cactus, I can take it as a souvenir! Well, as soon as I pick it up I feel this weird sensation in my fingers, lol, I have a million little tiny fiber needles in all of my finger tips! Gaaaaaaah! So I slowly pull them out, but of course, one has to be a bugger. Couldn't get it out at all!
Later on I asked the lady in the visitor center about what to do and she said try duct tape! Now I know jelly is made from it because we just bought some! How do they handle these things? The Indians used sticks to split it apart. Today tongs are used! The needle eventually came out...with tweezers! (was unsuccessful with the duct tape!)
This is the stuff that REALLY intrigues me...the unexcavated rooms!
I asked them if they have plans to work on these rooms...but no, not at this time.
ok. Lesson for the day...do not pick up anything on the ground in the southwest. could be a snake, a scorpion or a prickly cactus thing !! LOL I hope your finger is feeling better. This place looks so interesting. I love the rock with the rings. And all the arts too.
ReplyDeleteMy finger is fine now! What a surprise though! Lol. I was at this place for hours meandering around...so cool.
