Drove to a jeep dealer in Milford. The service guy, Dan, had a bowl of complimentary Hershey's kisses. That made me happy! He would check the gear problem, change the oil and check the tire pressure on the jeep.
When we were at Holly Shores, the man who parked the RV for me said the fan belt was squeaking, so we took the RV to a Thor authorized dealer, Delmarva RV Center, also in town. But they said the people who make the chassis (Freightliner) would have to fix the fan belt. Asked the guy at the counter about cleaning the water tank - "I'd do the same thing you're doing". Asked about the other issues...it was either "I don't know what causes that" or "Nuthin you can do about that"...not the friendliest service center.
So on we go south to Barr Freightliner in Delmar, Maryland!! The guys (think their names were Ed and Jim) were awesome - so accomodating. We hung out in the "Drivers Lounge" - big cushy chairs (I felt asleep!), while they checked the fan belt and also checked the pressure on the tires - found out the best pressure for them is 115psi. So the bottom line was that after Freightliner builds the engines, they paint them. The paint sometimes gets on the belt, glazing it a bit. It's not a problem, just a nuisance. The belt would have to be ordered, so they suggested calling ahead to the next Freightliner we'll be passing and having it available when we arrive. They fixed the pressure on the tires, and off we went.
Driving back from Maryland to Delaware, with the view before me, I had the Green Acres theme in my head..."Green acres is the place for me. Farm livin' is the life for me. Land spreadin' out so far and wide. Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside". Yeah, that's dating me for sure....
So, the gear problem...
A five dollar part...which goes on each end of the transfer case. The one closer to the gear shift had crumbled. He replaced both, and we bought a spare, just in case. He also put in an air filter, and made sure the tires were at the proper pressure of 36psi. And he took the time to go over with me how the connect/disconnect to/from the RV should go (the directions are so sketchy). We thanked him and went on our way back to our last stop at the Delaware Seashore State park where Greg would resume his ride. As we drove off, another song in my head..."On the Road Again"...which reminds me, my aunt and cousin just saw Willie Nelson perform and said he was awesome! 80 years old and goin' strong!!
Along Route One there was this gigantic place called the Sea Shell Shop that my mom would love!! I just HAD to check it out! And next to it was another putt putt golf!
The bridge in daylight...
A view of last night's campsite...a lot of the parks are pretty bare when they are near the beach. This one was just a dune's hill away from the beach on one side and the bay with its beautiful sunsets on the other...
And he's off! He's been having to do a lot of nighttime riding, but has two very powerful headlights and the coolest blinking rear light - very visible, thank goodness. Didn't get to the next campsite until 10pm. Never seen this before...!
Drove through a couple of hoppin' beach towns.
and you'll never guess what they had there!!
New York has to step up to the plate with putt putt !! The other states blow them away!!
As the sun is setting, I head toward Assateague State Park...
