Found a few pics from other bike rides that year - we made many a trip out to Orient Beach State Park. We would park in Greenport and ride through town (great shops), through the quintessential town of Orient and then onto the state park, where we would relax for a while gazing out at the water before heading back.
In Southold there's a lighthouse we hadn't known about - Horton Point, built in 1857. It was commissioned by President George Washington in 1800 but work on it didn't start for many years later.
In another nearby town, Marion, a farm - Lavender by the Bay. When the lavender is in bloom you can smell the fragrant aroma as you drive or ride by. We stop by there whenever we go out east. They have a wonderful shop to buy bunches of lavender, sachets, books, etc. You can even go out in the field and pick your own.
Bergen Point is a favorite of ours for a quick stop to see the water. At sunrise the lighting is amazing.
